Senate Library Committee Convenes

The UK Libraries leadership team hosted a lunch meeting this week with the University Senate Library Committee. The group reviewed initiatives underway in each area of UK Libraries, with special emphasis on library instruction and information literacy.

Thanks to the Senate Library Committee for their service and their commitment to UK Libraries. Members of the committee are: Andrew Doolen, Chair, Eric Christianson, Cindy Jong, Lothar Jennes, Rebecca McCulley, James Hertog, Michael Baker, Chad Lee, Haralambos Symeonidis, Ana Herrera, William Griffith, Dusan Sekulic, and Terry Birdwhistell, ex officio.

Courtney Crepeau is new ILL Manager

Courtney Crepeau
Courtney Crepeau begins her new position as Interlibrary Loan Manager on November 3. Courtney first came to UK Libraries in 2005 as a graduate assistant, and has been employed full-time since 2007. Most recently she served as Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Unit Manager  Courtney earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from UK.

University Press of Kentucky releases Spring/Summer 2015 catalog


The new Spring/Summer 2015 Catalog from University Press of Kentucky is available online, for browsing or download. The catalog highlights subjects ranging from film and entertainment, to military history, to the arts and food in Kentucky.

The University Press of Kentucky is the scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and was organized in 1969 as successor to the University of Kentucky Press. The university has sponsored scholarly publication since 1943.

Three Outstanding Staff honored from UK Libraries

Fifty-six University of Kentucky staff members, including three from UK Libraries, were honored during the 2014 Outstanding Staff Awards recognition ceremony Wednesday at Spindletop Hall.  This was the fifth year for the event sponsored by the Staff Senate and the office of UK President Eli Capilouto.

UK Libraries employees honored were Nancy DeMarcus, UK Records Manager in the Special Collections Research Center, David Powell, Electronic Resources, and Allison Webster. University Press of Kentucky.

STEAM students visit Education Library

Students from the STEAM Academy in Lexington visited the Education Library on UK’s campus last week. The students toured the library, met with faculty and staff, and learned about resources available to them through the partnership between UK and Fayette County Public Schools.

Open Access Week draws participants to learn about research openness

To celebrate Open Access Week, more than 40 participants attended a panel titled  "Generation Open: Researchers' Roles in the Age of Openness," sponsored by UK Libraries and held October 23 in William T. Young Library. Jen Bartlett served as moderator, with presentations by Mary Molinaro, Director of the Research Data Center for UK Libraries, F. Douglas Scutchfield of the UK College of Public Health, and Matthew Zook of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Also during Open Access Week, a program at the Medical Center Library drew 15 attendees to “Your Publication, Your Choice: Choosing the Right Open Access Journal.” Adrian Ho, Director of Digital Scholarship for UK Libraries, addressed participants on how to select an open access journal to host their research.


Other events featured during Open Access week included a webcast kickoff event and an electronic thesis and dissertation information session.
