The UK Libraries National Advisory board gathered for their Fall meeting October 2 and 3.
Events kicked off October 2 with a wonderful reception held at the home of Gail Hart, current president of the board, and her spouse Dan Featherston.
The morning of October 3, the board gathered at William T. Young Library to hear the Dean’s Update regarding important initiatives underway at UK Libraries, including marketing and development. The remainder of the morning the Board discussed revisions to the board’s constitution and by-laws, and the role of committees in furthering the effectiveness of the Board. Of special interest was how the board could be most effective in supporting UK Libraries Capital Campaign goals over the next several years.
Following lunch at the Boone Center, the Board heard more updates from the associate deans and directors in attendance. The group spent the rest of the afternoon in conversation and deliberation to select the 2015 recipients of the UK Libraries Medallion for Intellectual Achievement and the Paul A. Willis Outstanding Faculty Award.
That evening UK Libraries sponsored a presentation and book signing by board member Alan Sullivan at the King Alumni House on campus. His new book about his father, Voice of the Wildcats: Claude Sullivan and the rise of Modern Sportscasting, is published by University Press of Kentucky, and utilizes UK Archives’ collections and oral history interviews to tell the story of Claude Sullivan’s influence on sports broadcasting.
