Aztec Tribute Poster on cover of C & R L News

The January issue of College and Research Libraries News News, published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), features a familiar image on the cover.  The Aztec Tribute poster, which is part of the Viva Mexico exhibit in the Rose Street Entrance of the William T. Young Library, is the cover art for the issue.

Adrian Ho, Director of Digital Scholarship, submitted two images last December and the tribute poster was immediately chosen to grace the cover.

New Integrated Library System

UK Libraries is actively examining options for a next-generation integrated library platform to replace the current Voyager system.  Next-generation library platforms are designed to manage digital collections and to take advantage of advances in computer technology and architecture.

Last fall, in partnership with other members of the State Assisted Academic Library Council of Kentucky (SAALCK), UK Libraries heard from representatives of Ex Libris about the merits of the ALMA and PRIMO platforms.  The same group will be meeting March 6 in Louisville to learn more about OCLC’s Worldshare system.

Forums for UK Libraries faculty and staff will be scheduled as more information becomes available.

UK Archivist recognized by KATH

Megan Mummey, Collections Management Archivist in Special Collections, is featured this month in the Kentucky Association of Teachers (KATH) “Spotlight.”  Megan, a member of the KATH board, discusses the types of unique collections she has been working with recently.

KATH “emphasizes history” but takes an interdisciplinary approach including humanities and the social sciences more broadly.  Members include elementary, middle school, high school, and college and university teachers, as well as administrators and public historians.

Reflections and Observations

Winter weather like we have been experiencing this month makes our already hectic days even more challenging.  I want to take this opportunity to thank each UK Libraries employee as well as our custodial staff and building operators for your role in keeping UK Libraries serving the University of Kentucky campus.

UK students and faculty depend on us every day and I want you know how proud I am to be your colleague in this shared effort.
