Evelyn C.
Howard, a senior at Tates
Creek High School in Lexington, recently completed a two-month internship in
the William T. Young Library Reference Services Department. As part of the
Fayette County Public Schools Experienced-Based Career Education (EBCE)
Program, Evelyn observed work at the reference desk and a library instruction
session, researched books and videos for a collection development project, and
created an online
research guide incorporating information from books,
databases, and other library resources. Jennifer Bartlett, head of
Reference Services, supervised the internship and Evelyn also had the
opportunity to work with Carla
Cantagallo, head of Distance Learning Library Services; Debbie Sharp, Information
Literacy coordinator; and Christie
Peters, head of the Science Library and eScience Initiatives. UK Libraries
frequently participates in the EBCE program, which offers high school seniors academic
credit while learning about a variety of careers through hands-on experience.
