Omer Hamlin, Jr.

Omer Hamlin, Jr. (1930-2014), second director of the UK Medical Center Library (MCL), died on December 25, 2014. Omer was the MCL Director from 1962 to 1992.  He graduated from Tollesboro High School in Kentucky, Milligan College in Tennessee, and the University of Kentucky. He served as the first head librarian of the P.H. Welshimer Library at Milligan College from 1959 to 1962. 

Omer returned to Lexington to become a reference librarian, Director of the Medical Center Library and Communications Systems, and then Director of the Medical Center Library at UK. He served on many state-wide, regional, and medical library associations and was named to “Who’s Who in Library Science.”
