Two
UK Librarians presented a webinar titled “Meeting the Challenge of Focused
Collection Development at a Federal Regional Depository” for the Association of
Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) on December 10, 2014. Sandee
McAninch, Regional Depository Librarian, and Heath Martin, Director of Collections, discussed the challenge of
focused collection development at a Federal regional depository library.
The
University of Kentucky is participating as a Center of Excellence (COE) for two
Federal agencies, the Works Progress Administration and Appalachian Regional
Commission, in an ASERL Collaborative Federal Depository Program designed to distribute collection
development for all Federal agencies across the entire Southeast.
The
presentation described how UK has been able to focus its collection development
efforts for its depository collection, apart from their own COE activities, on
the agencies which have not yet been selected as Centers of Excellence. The
presenters discussed how this ASERL program has allowed UK LIbraries to cease
collection development efforts, when appropriate, for those agencies where another research library in the Southeast has agreed to be the Center of Excellence, and
how local collection development priorities have influenced those decisions.
