On February
10, the Design Library hosted an exhibition and lecture by Dr. Robert L. Kelly
on the work of architect Ernst Johnson who designed many of UK’s iconic
buildings from 1935 – 1957. Some of his
buildings include the Old Engineering Quadrangle, Funkhouser, Erickson,
Memorial Coliseum, Lafferty Hall, the Fine Arts building, the Student Union
(now part of the Student Center), Holmes Hall and many others. Attendees at the
lecture included Johnson’s business partner Byron Romanowitz and Johnson’s daughter
Brenda Johnson Clay. As they viewed the
exhibit, guests enjoyed a reception sponsored by JRA Architects, the Lexington
firm founded by Ernst Johnson.
