Kazuko Hioki, Asian Studies liaison librarian, and
Kathryn Lybarger, cataloging and metadata librarian, recently collaborated on the
cataloging of a collection of rare Japanese materials purchased for UK
Libraries. The collection materials date from 1686 to 1928 and cover a
wide variety of topics including: mathematics, travel, and flower arranging. The
collection includes books, magazine issues, woodblock prints, and a painting on
a scroll.
The materials are held in the Special Collections Research Center Rare Books area and will be used in Kazuko's JPN 405 course "Introduction to Japanese Publishing Culture" she is teaching this fall.
