Reflections and Observations

The University Senate Library Committee convened this week in William T. Young Library for a lunch meeting.

Associate Dean for Special Collections Deirdre Scaggs shared with the committee information regarding new initiatives and collections with a particular focus on the Special Collections Undergraduate Learning Lab and the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History.

Senior Associate Dean Mary Beth Thomson updated the committee on collections and new initiatives, the impact of anticipated cuts, and reviewed the progress to date on the new strategic plan and how it relates to UK Libraries.

One idea generated by the committee was for UK Libraries to host a speakers series each academic year during which UK faculty discuss their research.  The series could be modeled on the very successful University Senate and Provost-sponsored Strategic Plan Speakers Series.
