The Special Collections Research Center hosted a
“white gloves” event for the members of UK Women & Philanthropy. Some of
the SCRC’s most spectacular holdings were highlighted and the 30 attendees were
encouraged to hold, analyze, and interact with the materials—all while wearing
protective gloves. Featured items included a Shakespeare 4th folio,
leaves from a Gutenberg Bible, a letter from Mary Todd Lincoln, and a dress
belonging to Belle Brezing.
Deirdre Scaggs, Ruth Bryan, Doug Boyd, Jaime Marie
Burton, and Sarah Dorpinghaus selected materials and attended the event to
provide background information for the materials and answer questions.
Women & Philanthropy brings together women of
diverse talents and experiences who share the ambition of building a better UK
and a better Kentucky. Since it began in 2007, the Women & Philanthropy
Network has awarded more than $1.3 million to scholarship recipients, colleges
and programs.
