A Hub of activity

March 5 was an exciting day in the Hub at William T. Young Library. First, the UK Writing Center celebrated its 30th anniversary with a program of speakers, live music, activities, and videos. At the event, Writing Center Director Judith G. Prats formally rededicated the Center as the Robert E. Hemenway Writing Center in honor of the center’s founder and long-time faculty supporter. The Writing Center offers individual and group assistance to all students, faculty and staff with the writing and communication projects, for example, those in The Spring WRD Writing Gallery, which was unveiled at the Writing Center anniversary event. The exhibit, on display through the end of March, is a showcase of student writing at UK, featuring texts created in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies (WRD) courses during the past year. These texts include multimedia documentaries, photo essays, podcasts, websites, and other types of writing that students create in WRD classes.

In addition to The Writing Center anniversary event and The Spring WRD Writing Gallery exhibit, the UK Media Depot held “Tech Tips Live @ The Hub,” an event designed to allow students to get information about the Media Depot, UKMobile, Blackboard, Coursera, and Tech Help @ the Hub. Pizza and prizes were also included. The Media Depot, a collaboration between UK Analytics and Technologies (UKAT) and UK Libraries, is a digital media space providing students with recording equipment, editing stations with specialized multimedia software, and technical support for projects.
